Dr. Lola J. Capps and Dr. David B. Capps achieved their BS in Kinesiological Sciences from University of Maryland and their Doctorate from Palmer Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. In 2004, Dr. Lola opened Chrysalis Chiropractic in Alexandria, VA while her husband worked in a Springfield chiropractic office. Dr. David later joined her at the couples’ Del Ray office in 2005. Together, they work to achieve wellness for the entire family by the use of natural methods without prescription drugs or surgery. The doctors’ expertise covers a range of topics including women’s health and pregnancy and pediatrics. Dr. Lola and Dr. David are both trained in the Webster Technique which is a chiropractic analysis that improves the mechanical function of the pelvis and enables proper flow of the nervous system. This technique has shown to be beneficial to pregnant women at all stages of pregnancy.
The Capps are strong advocates for family health and basic wellness to suit the modern lifestyle. The couple is frequently seen at community events, either packing goodie bags for the Del Ray Turkey Trot or speaking to a local expectant mothers’ group. Dr. Lola and Dr. David joined CrossfitOldTown in 2011 and are avid “crossfitters.” In addition, the doctors enjoy running and cycling. Dr. David has participated in a number of running races including the Rock and Roll Half Marathon along with his wife last March. Most recently, Dr. Lola organized a team that went to the Ragnar Relay, a 200 mile running relay race from Cumberland, Maryland to National Harbor.
Dr. Lola added a Nutrition Response Testing program to further enhance her practice. She feels that chiropractic is “life-changing” and so is proper nutrition! She also discovered Paleo eating after beginning Crossfit. Not only did Crossfit satisfy her craving for high intensity exercise, but it also exposed her to the world of Paleo eating. Paleo is commonly known as an ancestral pre-agrarian diet that eliminates all dairy, grains, legumes and processed sugars. Dr. Lola already understood the benefits of consuming whole foods but this new way of eating took this philosophy to the next level. She has integrated Paleo principles such as the Whole9 and Whole 30 program into her growing nutrition practice and is experiencing a positive response.
When asked what makes an awesome day, Dr. Lola responded:
"Breakfast with bacon, playing with my son Lachlan, and getting a PR!"
Dr. David has a passion for working with athletes, from the professional to weekend warrior. His certification as an Active Release Technique (ART) provider has enabled him to provide the best possible adjustments. ART is a soft tissue technique that works on the muscles, tissues and tendons around affected areas to reduce inflammation and chronic injury cycles. Dr. David’s experience has ranged from working with high school and college sports teams to Olympic Hopefuls and local professional teams! He has also volunteered his services at local sporting events such as the Del Ray Turkey Trot. In the past, he has even met patients on the sidelines before races to work with them and make sure that they were in top condition for competition. Dr. David’s knowledge of physical therapy techniques enables him to send patients home with helpful stretches to supplement their wellness care and ensure lasting results.
When asked what leisure activity he enjoys most, Dr. David replied:
"Playing golf with a group of friends."
